I then deleted the drivers via Programs and Features and deleted the entry "Other Devices - Unknown device". "Windows found driver software for your device but encountered an error while attempting to install it.
I tried to reinstall the driver for the Unknown Device and got the following message: NVidia Display software update released in September, 2009 "nVidia - Display - NVIDIA GeForce 9600 GT The installation failed and since then the adapter has been listed in Device Manager as "Other Devices - Unknown device". On 24 October Microsoft attempted to install an updated driver for my display adapter. COpied here as suggested by respondent (see ) This previously posted on System Repair & Recovery forum.
